POLICE – Man dies of injuries from violent attack, suspect charged

The victim of a violent attack that took place Sept. 27, 2025, has succumbed to his injuries.

At about 5:08 a.m. on that date, police were called to the 700-block of Notre Dame for a report of an injured man.  Upon arrival police discovered that Jason Pinette, a 39-year-old Kamloops man, had suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital in critical condition. Kamloops RCMP initiated an investigation and, as a result of a multi-unit response, were able to locate the suspect believed to be responsible.

Jason Pinnete did not survive the attack.  On Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025, Justin Hopkin-Jones was charged with second-degree murder.  He is in custody.

“This investigation was well supported from the initial call, which started with our frontline officers, Forensic Identification Services, General Investigation Services Team, and the Serious Crime Unit,” said Supt. Jeff Pelley, officer in charge of the Kamloops RCMP detachment.

“Our team has worked diligently over the course of this investigation to gather evidence and follow-up on investigative material.”

“As this matter is now before the courts, we can not speak to the details, however, I want to acknowledge the swift and coordinated team effort to advance this investigation, securing charge approval,” said Pelley.

“The Kamloops RCMP detachment offers our condolences to the family and friends of Jason.”
