CITY – Pedestrian suffers injuries in attack by two dogs in Valleyview
The City is asking residents for information following a serious dog attack in the area of Kelly Douglas Road and Vicars Road on Wednesday (Sept. 2).
At about 12 p.m., a pedestrian was attacked by two loose, dark-coloured dogs. The man suffered injuries and required medical treatment.
Community service officers responded to the area and have continued patrols to locate the dogs and identify their owners. The dogs and their owners have not yet been identified, says the City. The investigation remains ongoing.
“Residents are encouraged to remain alert when walking in the area and to report any loose or aggressive dogs to the City immediately.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident, observed dogs matching this description in the area or has information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Community Services.”

It seems that a common denominator in a lot of dog attacks is that the dog or dogs are “off leash” when it or they decide to attack another dog or a person.
In early December 2024, I was walking our dog on leash and was heading past Westmount Park. Two women who had a number of kids playing in the park had two dogs “off leash”. The one dog, a Boston terrier, came out of the park and made a bee line toward us. It took one sniff nose to nose with our dog and launched an attack on our dog, tearing into Buddy’s nose. The woman owner of the dog came out of the park, picked up the terrier and said, “I should have had my dog on a leash.”
When I reported the incident to a CSO, he asked for a licence plate of her vehicle and photos. Good Lord almighty, when did I have time to take out a camera and snap a few photos????? I was too far away from the vehicle to see the licence plate and did NOT want to walk any closer to have her dog attack my dog again.
The CSO could hardly wait to close the file.
Meanwhile, we were left with an $800 vet bill and Buddy has had chronic issues with the right nostril of his nose.
I am thankful the two dogs in this case did not kill the man. At the same time, I wish him all the best of fortune trying to deal with the CSO.
In case of a dog attack, the owner of the dog is liable for injuries. With us, our home owner insurance should respond if Buddy ever attacked someone or someone else’s dog. Do folks who “rent a place” and own a dog have tenant’s insurance? If not, how might the victim receive money to cover vet bills, lost time at work or long term disability as the result of a dog attack?
Owners who let their dogs run loose show they care little for other people or other dogs.
