POLICE – Driver killed when car crosses centre line, hits delivery truck

A serious crash on Highway 1 yesterday (Thursday, Aug. 19, 2021) claimed the life of a woman and sent two other people to hospital.

Around 3 p.m., Kamloops RCMP received a report of a two-vehicle collision near the entrance of Highway 5.

A red Toyota Echo was travelling eastbound when it crossed the centre line into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a delivery truck. The driver of the Toyota, a Burnaby woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the car and the driver of the truck were taken to hospital. The passenger was in serious but stable condition. The truck’s driver received non-life threatening injuries.

A section of Highway 1 was closed until 7:30 p.m. while investigators attended and cleanup was done.

The BC Coroners Service was notified and has launched a fact-finding investigation alongside that of the RCMP.

Anyone with information related to the collision is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2021-28923.
