TRU a big contributor to economy, says report

NEWS/ TRU — Thompson Rivers University contributes just over $355 million to the Kamloops and region economy, and $650 million to the provincial economy, says an economic-impact report released today (Tuesday).

TRUThe report, Economic Impact Analysis: Thompson Rivers University, is based on a study conducted by Dr.Laura Lamb examining the expenditures of TRU, its students and visitors to campus and the value of higher education for the period of 2012-13.

“TRU is an outstanding investment in B.C. and throughout our region,” TRU President Alan Shaver told Kamloops’ business and political leaders gathered for the announcement. “With a provincial grant of approximately $65 million, TRU generates nearly 10 times that much provincially and more than five times locally.”

That’s a pretty big budget line for provincial expenditures compared to local; can we hear more, is TRU shopping as local as they could be?…s
