LETTER – Did someone shoot an urban deer with an arrow?

Dear Armchair Mayor,

I don’t do Facebook but I have some friends who do.  I was made aware of an incident that happened near Westmount Park Monday evening (last week) about 7:30 p.m.  Word has it that a deer (three-point buck) was shot by someone using an arrow as a projectile.

Just after midnight the following night, our motion detector light activated in the front yard.  We have several bucks that visit our street this fall.  When I looked at this particular deer, it looked as if it had some kind of wound in its right (front) shoulder.  The muscle in the right hip looked totally out of sorts; not normal.  When the deer faced the other way, there was what looked to be a wound in its left shoulder as well.

Could this be the deer from the incident reported on Monday night?  Indeed it was a thee-point buck (mule deer).

Without the burden of proof, all I can do is speculate.  The wounds on both shoulders may have been caused by a (hunting) arrow passing through the animal for one side to the other.  It looked like blood was present on both wounds.  As far as the hip muscle looking so terrible, one might have to guess how that happened.

In any case, if you’d care to write an editorial about such things as shooting a (broad head?) arrow within the City or doing such a thing after dark in a residential area, I think your readers would be open to your views.  As always, thanks for your openness in accepting different topics to your site.

JOHN NOAKES,
Citizen of Westmount
