Police are asking residents to help keep ghosts and goblins safe this Halloween by slowing down and using extra caution.

Halloween is on Saturday, and in preparation for the fa-boo-lous night, the Kamloops RCMP detachment Crime Prevention Unit is reminding the community of some safety tips to keep in mind on Oct. 31, 2026.  Frontline police are anticipating an increase in pedestrian and vehicle traffic in our neighbourhoods and on our roads.

“While not everyone is equipped with X-ray or night vision, we can all be Halloween hero’s by keeping in mind some safety tips to keep the night funtastic,” police said in a news release.

Be street smart:

  • Be visible, wear reflective clothing and carry a glow stick or flashlight
  • Use marked intersections when crossing streets
  • Know your route and keep to the plan
  • Go in groups, or with a trusted adult
  • Stay outside, do not go into a house to accept treats
  • Check treats before eating

Motorists:

  • Expect the unexpected
  • Slow down
  • Use caution entering and exiting driveways
  • Allow extra travel time

“Halloween can be popular with criminals as well,” said Cpl. Nik Gajic, in charge of the Kamloops detachment’s Crime Prevention Unit.

“Report any suspicious activity, including arson, erratic or impaired driving, and property damage to the Kamloops RCMP detachment at 250-828-3000 or call 9-1-1 for emergencies.”
