Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson is in Kelowna General Hospital for heart surgery today (Oct. 28, 2026). The mayor, who suffered a heart attack Oct. 13, was transferred from Royal Inland Hospital on Tuesday.

He told ArmchairMayor.ca about the development, joking that he’ll be “going under the knife for renovations” today. He has not revealed what the surgery involves.

Hamer-Jackson, who was defeated in his bid for re-election in the Oct. 17 civic election, missed Tuesday’s final meeting of the outgoing City Council, and also expects to miss the inaugural meeting and swearing in of the new council on Nov. 2 at the TRU Grand Hall.

He was given leave by his doctors on election night to briefly visit his campaign headquarters.
