POLICE – Man hospitalized after early morning shooting on 13th Street

Multiple Kamloops RCMP officers and Police Dog Services responded to a report of a shooting in the early this morning.
On Friday, Jan. 24, 2025 around 2:05 a.m., police were called to the 900 block of 13th Street in Kamloops for a report of a man who had been shot. The victim transported to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries.
Police believe several people were in involved. The file is being supported by the Serious Crime unit , and General Investigation Support team along with the Kamloops RCMP Forensic Identification Section as part of the ongoing investigation.
“While we are continuing our investigation, based on evidence gathered as this time, this incident does not appear to be random,” said Cpl. Dana Napier a spokesperson for the Kamloops RCMP.
“We are asking anyone who may have been witness to this incident or has video surveillance to call the Kamloops RCMP and reference file 2025-2175.”
Statistics are for losers, ergo the crime statistics don’t matter, ergo there is no crime problem, ergo what neighborhood shootings?

These “non-random” shootings all seem to be about drugs.
Kamloops is a marketing haven for drug dealers, since we are a hub for drug users.
This situation is only going to get worse: the more attractive we make our city for drug users, the more drug dealers will also move here.

Are we witnessing more wisdom from Councillor Neustaeter when she stated that police largely don’t prevent crime but respond to it? Has she also said that right now we need more social workers & more feet on the ground who can do connective work on the front lines?
Maybe the shooting incident in the 900 block of 13th Street was simply a case of personal boundaries being crossed. Perhaps another St. Paddy’s Day fiasco is what is needed to straighten out the folks who have their heads in the sand….the weeds.
Let this somewhat silly senior citizen offer the suggestion that a big part of police work involves things the public never sees or hears. That work takes officers. Scrap the fancy words Councillor Neustaeter and grow up; a lot of us over on the North Shore are sick of the violent crime. Hire more RCMP Officers and let them do their job.

I did send her and her colleagues a pair of pointed emails briefly explaining to her that police do not alleviate crime. That is more money spent on policing are not the answer. Those email were sent well before she made the comment. Her “wisdom” is borrowed. But at least she made it public.
