ARTS/ ENVIRONMENT – Writers to celebrate Earth Day with poetry

The arts and environmental communities will come together to celebrate the week of Earth Day with an event organized by Transition Kamloops, Wild Wor(l)ds: Poetry and Nature-Friendly Yards.

The poetry reading will bring together local writers to share work exploring land, place, environmental change, and our relationship to the natural world.

It will be held Saturday, April 25, 2026 at the Kamloops Art Gallery Studio, 465 Victoria Street. Doors open at 1:30 p.m., with readings from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and a chance to mingle until 4:30 p.m. The event is free, but preregistration is required.

Invited poets Garry Gottfriedson, Sue Buis, Thom Vernon, Pete Smith, Wendy Weseen, Lindsay Curry, and George Johnson will read both original work and poems from other ecopoets, while visual artist Bonnie McBride will work live in the space.

“This event connects artistic expression with reflection on community and the choices that shape our shared future,” said local poet Lindsay Curry.

“It’s exciting to share my poetry about the natural world and climate change, and I’m thrilled to read alongside such notable local writers. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to mark this year’s relaunch of the Nature-Friendly Yards project during the week of Earth Day, by sharing art inspired by the more-than-human world.”
