A portable at Sa-Hali secondary school was burned to the ground early today (April 22, 2026) in a fire described by police as “suspicious.”

The portable was fully engulfed in flames by the time Kamloops Fire Rescue and RCMP got to the site in the 200-block of Arrowstone Drive around 2 a.m. but KFR contained the fire and no other structures were affected.

School District 73 said the school was open for classes as usual.

“Our General Investigative Support Team is investigating along with KFR investigators to determine the cause and origin of the fire,” said RCMPCpl. Dana Napier.

“As we actively investigate, we will continue to work closely with School District 73 and KFR to learn more about this incident.”

Napier asked those in the area to check their video surveillance and for anyone who may have been in the area leading up to 2 a.m. to reach out to Kamloops RCMP with any information or footage they may have by calling 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
