COLLINS – Not many resolutions for 2024
I NEVER MAKE TOO MANY RESOLUTIONS at New Year’s. Most of them in the past have had to do with losing weight so I can get my health back. They have never come true and I don’t really make them anymore. Maybe having to face at least six major surgeries if I lose the weight is too daunting.
I do plan to try and see if I can fit in an online course or two, but right now that’s just wishful thinking. I will continue to try to help others and do what I can to live up to my belief in the need to help those who are marginalized and vulnerable.
One thing I will do is test some of the employer gobbledygook about having a progressive, inclusive, barrier-free workplace, open for everyone to apply and be considered.
I think I will start with the City of Kamloops. They often have openings for emergency call-takers at various levels. It is a job I believe I am eminently qualified for. I speak clearly and calmly, react well under pressure, think quickly on my feet, would need a little training on the technical side, but am strong in all the basics, and because I have friends and relatives who are first responders in various parts of the province, I know the stress and pressure this kind of job entails.
That being said, I wonder what the city’s response would be when a 75-year old man applies.
