LETTER – How can we be a real City without a Chain of Office?

Dear Armchair Mayor,

Something is missing from the Mayoralty race.  Something is missing from City Hall.  Levi Landry hasn’t identified it.  Kristen has been too busy with crucifying our present Mayor to be even mildly interested in that which is missing.

Have we forgotten about the Chain of Office?

Without the Chain we have no continuity.  Without the Chain, how can there be any real power or authority?  Without the Chain, there is a blank spot where the former Chain was placed.  Without the Chain, how can any Magistrate or Corporate Officer perform the “swearing in” of the new Mayor this fall?

Will someone at City Hall be designated to search for a new Chain as soon as possible?  Does Amazon have any available on line?  Should we buy Canadian?  Will it be bought using yet another AAP?

Oct. 17 will be here before we know it.  The swearing in of the Mayor and Council will take place soon after that.  Nelly should have one.  Ray could unlock the future of our City if he had a new chain to wear.  Reid could finally see what a Chain of Office looks like as he wears it proudly into the Mayor’s office.

Levi; we need a story from you.  Kristen; the world existed before there was a guy who had no Chain of Office so we need a story from you.

Armchair Mayor; how can we be a real City without a Chain of Office?

    There are lots of sources for chains of office on the internet with most costing less than $1000.

      There used to be two chains of office, the original one, and one that then-Municipal Affairs Minister Dan Campbell presented to the City after amalgamation. I liked the older one better, and had the names of all the mayors engraved on the back of the links. After it was stolen and disappeared, I don’t know what happened to the other one. I certainly agree that the Chain of Office is a nice thing to have for ceremonial purposes, and adds some dignity to such occasions.
