POLICE – Trucker who crossed the line on Yellowhead leaves Canada

The trucker who passed traffic on a double solid line near Clearwater in April has been identified.

Several media reports at the time showed a commercial vehicle driver operating in a dangerous manner and passing on a double solid line around a curve on Highway 5.

B.C. Highway Patrol opened an investigation. “During the investigation of this incident, and with the full cooperation of the company involved, investigators were able to advance the file,” it said today (July 26, 2023).

Police learned that the driver — who was living in Edmonton — was immediately discharged from the company when it heard what had happened.

Investigators located an address and asked the Edmonton Police Service to serve a B.C. violation ticket behalf of B.C. Highway Patrol.

“While attempting to serve the violation ticket, EPS learned that the driver had left the country, returning home as he was no longer working.

“B.C. Highway Patrol would like to thank the company for their cooperation and rapid condemnation of the actions of their driver who jeopardized other road users with his reckless and dangerous actions.”

Charges under the Motor Vehicle Act of B.C. have a one-year statute of limitations. Should the driver return to B.C. within the one-year period, the highway patrol would look to lay charges, it said.
