POLICE – Youth in custody following Westsyde school threats investigation

A brief hold and secure at a Westsyde school ended Tuesday with a youth suspect being arrested by police.

On Feb. 14, 2023, around 1:45 p.m., Kamloops RCMP received a report involving threats directed toward a school on Bebek Road.

Police didn’t identify the school by name in a news release today but Westsyde secondary is the only school on the street.

Through consultation with police, the school district issued a hold and secure that was lifted shortly after, once police had the suspect safely in custody.

“Due to the quick action of the police officers responding, the suspect was located very quickly after police received the report and the hold and secure was lifted prior to the end of the school day,” said Supt. Jeff Pelley.

No further information will be released to protect the identity of the youth suspect and the integrity of the ongoing investigation, police said.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-5270.
