Two men made a run for the river and one of them escaped by swimming across it after a break-in at a local pub early today (June 26, 2026).

Just after 3:30 a.m., police were called to the pub in the 3300-block of Westsyde Road. Two men were seen entering the pub and stealing an ATM. They fled in what was later determined to be a stolen truck.

The truck and ATM have since been recovered but not before the cash had been removed.

“An RCMP police dog handler located two males matching the suspects on Westsyde Road and tracked them to the North Thompson River, where both entered,” said RCMP S/Sgt. Janelle Shohet.

“One male was arrested shortly after. However, a second suspect swam across the river and remains outstanding.”

The swimmer is described as Caucasian, balding, with a beard and full sleeve tattoos on his right arm/shoulder. He was last seen wearing a pair of blue jeans.

“Police officers flooded the ground and the river, with assistance Kamloops Fire and Rescue however the suspect was not located, despite significant searching.

“We are releasing a photo of the suspect seen in the river and asking anyone who lives in the area east of the north Thompson River to keep their eyes out for the suspect, who will undoubtedly still be wet and cold. If you see him immediately call police.”
