POLICE – Cash machines robbed in two early-morning break-ins
Police are looking for help in finding two people who stole cash from ATM machines in two Kamloops stores.
RCMP said today (Oct. 29, 2019) that the first theft was at 3:45 a.m. on Oct. 22 after the front door of SaveOn Foods in Valleyview was smashed open. Two masked suspects entered the store and broke into the ATM machine using a Stihl gas-powered saw, stealing cash from within.
Surveillance video shows the suspects driving away in a white pick-up truck that was reported stolen later that morning.
On Oct. 23 at 1:15 a.m., the Rexall Store on Highway 5A was broken into and the ATM was broken into using the same type of saw, Cpl. Jodie Shelkie said. Again, cash was stolen from inside of the machine.
“Surveillance video shows that it was the same suspects in both thefts,” said Shelkie. “One suspect is wearing a black hoodie and tan-coloured Carhartt pants. The other was wearing a plaid jacket with snap closures and black pants. Both wore masks and gloves.”
The stolen white pick-up used in the first theft has since been recovered in Kamloops.
Kamloops RCMP are asking anyone who has knowledge of these thefts or who can identify the suspects to contact them at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
