PARKCREST FIRE – Art gallery offers art camps for students affected by fire
In support of students, teachers and families affected by the Parkcrest elementary school fire, the Kamloops Art Gallery says it will offer free full-day art camps beginning today (Friday, Sept. 6.) until Friday, Sept. 13.
The school was destroyed by a fire Thursday evening. The cause has not been determined. School district officials are making alternative arrangements for students but expect it to take a week.
No one was injured in the fire.
The gallery says extended dates for its art camps may become available as the situation develops.
“We have space to accommodate 20 students; all grades welcome,” the gallery said in a media release.

The camps will be held Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Good on the Arts community! I’m sure the city will rally all resources necessary for a worthwhile and unique year for all students. They’ll learn a lot of important things this year outside the curriculum. Things that only a disaster may teach.
