I’m pleased to offer a new feature on ArmchairMayor.ca called Pet Memorials.
The recent death of our beloved dog Jesse brought many kind condolences and comments, including stories about people’s own pets and how important they are as members of our families.
Being able to write about Jesse and what he meant to us, and the responses we received, has been a great help to our family as we work our way through the grieving process.
The idea struck me that people might like to have a place to memorialize their dogs and other treasured pets when they die or as we think back to the happy times our non-human family members provided to us.
So, today, I’m launching a Pet Memorials category on the Armchair Mayor, kicking it off with the memorial/ obituary we posted on my Facebook page when we lost Jesse. (To find it, go to the main menu bar on the home page of this website where you will find a category called Pet Memorials, and click on it.) This is simply an example — if you would like to submit something similar about your pet, I would welcome it.
All that’s necessary is to submit an item about your pet’s passing, including some details about your pet, date or year of birth (if available), date of death and preferably a photo.
I would also welcome reminiscences about pets that have passed away earlier, again with photos. That’s why we’ll call them memorials rather than obituaries.
There will be no charge — this website is published for enjoyment rather than profit. Submissions will be published on the ArmchairMayor.ca, which has more than 9,000 followers and has attracted more than 1.5 million lifetime views.
