THERE’S SOMETHING for everybody in the SLR Consulting report on the KGHM Ajax application released by the City on Tuesday.
Those on either side of the issue can point to certain things and say “Aha, I told you so! This proves our point!”
That shouldn’t be much of a surprise, since the report is a balanced analysis of the application for the proposed mine. No project is all bad or all good.

I think the phrase “fatal flaw” needs to be considered. This term is used when, no matter how many positive aspects there might be regarding a particular proposal, another aspect is so detrimental that it should lead to outright rejection of the project. Here, we have several: “heightened uncertainties and/or low confidence” with respect to conclusions on air quality, human health, water quality…”. Low confidence to conclusions on human health and air quality? That is a fatal flaw. Moreover, the report does not even fully recognize that the project has already been rejected by the affected First Nation for very similar reasons, among many others. Fatally Flawed.

Careful, that almost sounds like you’re warming up to Ajax? The greatest injustice in this entire process, is that any city Council member would make a decision and adamantly oppose a project before the provincial and federal reviews are completed. They should be representing the majority of their constituents and leave their personal soap box in their own living room!
I think this SLR report was a huge waste of time and tax payer dollars, although KGHM did graciously pay for most of it! We cannot drive electric cars without mining copper!?!
