Emergency response team arrests 7 in drug investigation
NEWS/ POLICE — Seven arrests in a police ERT operation last Friday were part of a four-month-long drug trafficking investigation, Kamloops RCMP said today.
The Kamloops RCMP Targeted Enforcement unit, assisted by the South East District Emergency Response Team, made the arrests.
“The operation involved high-risk vehicle stops and the execution of a search warrant on a lower Sahali residence,” stated Cpl. Cheryl bush.
“The Emergency Response Team was utilized in this operation as a result of information received during the course of the investigation that revealed there may be weapons present.
“Given the intelligence on the individuals and the criminal element that police were dealing with, the specialized unit was deployed to minimize risk to officers and the public.”
Of the seven people arrested, charges are being recommended against two males and one female, Bush said. The charges relate to drug possession, trafficking, and unsafe storage of a firearm.
She said about 10 ounces of methamphetamine and cocaine have been seized, as well as various items that would support evidence of drug trafficking, and a shotgun.
The arrest operation was wrapped up about 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Further arrests and charges are expected, said Bush.
