CIVIC ELECTION – Ray Dhaliwal to officially announce candidacy for mayor

A former City councillor will officially add his name to the list of those wanting to be the next mayor of Kamloops.

Ray Dhaliwal said today (Aug. 31, 2026) he’ll make his announcement at 10 a.m. Friday (Sept. 4, 2026) at the RCMP detachment on Battle Street.

“It is going to get a bit exciting now,” he told ArmchairMayor.ca in an email.

Dhaliwal let his intentions be known earlier in the summer in a radio interview with CBC’s Daybreak Kamloops program, but this will be the first general announcement.

He won election to council in a 2017 by-election but was defeated in the 2018 general election. Dhaliwal is known as a prominent Kamloops businessman and for his involvement in Canada Day celebrations.

Other announced mayoral candidates are incumbent Reid Hamer-Jackson, councillor Mike O’Reilly, and former councillor Nelly Dever.
