Body found under tarp along Schubert path

NEWS — The body of a 56-year-old man was discovered in a makeshift camp along the bike path beside Schubert Drive just after midnight this morning.

Screen Shot 2014-01-28 at 2.58.52 PMA passerby found the man lying under a tarp. When he tried to wake him up to make sure he was okay, the man remained motionless she he called police.

RCMP and Emergency Health Services responded and confirmed the man was dead. Police say he has been identified and that he has connections to Kamloops but his name is being withheld until next of kin are notified.

The B.C. Coroner service has taken over the investigation as it appears the man died of natural causes, police said.

  1. Please follow up on this story Mel. If it is who I think it is, many people on the north shore were familiar with him. I never knew his name, but would talk with him when he hung around the Bank of Montreal or Rockin Ferkin on the north shore. He said he was living by the river on Schubert Drive. He was a nice man, never aggressive, and he didn’t seem to be drunk. He did seem to have some sort of mental disorder. He had a passion for art. His mother lives in town.
