Kamloops police are releasing images of a person believed to be related to a recent Valleyview fire in an effort to further the investigation.

On March 30, 2024, around 3:12 a.m., RCMP received a report of a possible arson involving several hedges behind a commercial property on the 2000-block of the East Trans Canada Highway.

“Earlier this week, on April 4, investigators connected with the property representative and viewed video of the incident captured by security cameras,” said Cpl. Crystal Evelyn.

“The video captured footage of a man who is known to frequent the area, standing behind the hedges as they went up in flames, at approximately 1:35 a.m.”

The man then gathered up his backpack and left westbound on foot.

Investigators have distributed the images to other police officers, and are now turning to the public for assistance with identifying a suspect.

The suspect is described as:

Male
Thin build

Wearing:

A red hat
Tan pants
Dark hoodie
Black and white shoes
A red and black backpack

Anyone with information that may be related to this investigation is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-9219.
