ROTHENBURGER – A conversation with the mayor, in his inner sanctum

Mayor RHJ and the Armchair Mayor discuss his office situation. (Image: Screenshot, Darpann Sharma)

I sat down with Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson in his City Hall office Friday to discuss… his office, of course, and the controversy surrounding when he’s allowed to be there.

Thanks to Darpann Sharma of Politics Kamloops Thompson Cariboo for taking the initiative to set it all up. The video is also posted on his Facebook page and on the Kamloops Citizens for Change page on Facebook.

The bizarre situation continues with the Mayor, Council and City Administration all lacking basic clear communication and transparency with one another. There continues to be a lack of understanding of their respective roles and the guardrails of their positions.

It seems to me to be perfectly understandable and reasonable that security concerns and safety issues for everyone using offices and public spaces need to be considered. Times have changed. Regulations and other legal issues have changed. If the Mayor needs after hours access to his office at a time when remote technology is available, then perhaps it is a requirement by various rules and regulations for his safety to be adequately protected.

For example, check the Worksafe rules for working in isolation:
    https://www.worksafebc.com/en/health-safety/hazards-exposures/working-alone

Whether or not WorkSafe rules apply to the Mayor or not, I don’t know – but perhaps it behooves all involved to review and clearly communicate this. Otherwise we’re all left wondering what the point is of this latest “controversy.”

Let’s get to a place of clear communication and transparency instead of conjecture and unnecessary conflict.

Mel, could we be overlooking the obvious?

Perhaps the “Cone of Silence” is the only thing needed to correct all of the problems at City Hall.

Expand on this one, Mel. Who could be ‘the Chief’? How about agent 86 aka Maxwell Smart? Who could be agent 99, the dashing brunette who had a crush on agent 99?

KAOS has been mentioned several times except it was spelled incorrectly.

You and Reid could take the maiden voyage with the 21st Century version of the Cone of Silence. Leak-proof and user friendly.

  5. If Darpann Sharma was indeed behind the camera videotaping the interview does that mean that Mike O’Reily hair are on fire?
