LETTER – Pettiness of councillors against the mayor grows very tiresome

I’m getting very tired with this council and the upper management with their petty bickering against the Mayor; this seems to have started when the Mayor put forth a motion to remove the “free lunch” (one which the taxpayers of Kamloops pay for) for council and upper management.

Then some council members started ganging up on the Mayor with “he said they said” and then it has just blown out of control with the Mayor can’t even talk with city staff as it can be construed as harassment and then can’t get into his office after hours.

It seems that there is no way the dead wood can be removed, and this city administration is nothing but an “Old Boys Club” and don’t want anyone disturbing them or trying to get rid of people that their jobs are redundant or have been split into sections where it can be done by a couple of people instead of more than needed.

I agree with you 100 percent and I really don’t have a connection to any of our Councilors or the Mayor. However, I did attend a Council Meeting and I was very discussed on our Councilors behavior towards an inexperienced Mayor who was at least trying. It was like they were in high school. These are elected officials and they should be adult enough to work with anyone and everyone regardless if they have their own differences. (We’ve all been there). This Council and there problems have cost us Tax Payers a lot of unnecessary money. There all fine when election time comes around, but once elected they kiss the rear-end of our City Management and that needs to halt as well. If City Management are going to continue to be disrespectful, I think we need a major change there as well.

  2. Rod, it’s odd you can overlook the Mayor’s role and pettiness in all of this but have this eagle-eye focus on the council and their issues. You have selective rage and are blind to the real problem. I was a mayor supporter, campaigned for and voted for. Unfortunately he lost me about a month ago and I’ve realized who the real problem is and what’s you see it, you can’t un-see it.

I’ve got a little different take, I watched the tourism debate and can’t understand how anyone could have voted for the mayor, so I didn’t vote for him. He’s grown on me, I think he’s sincere and like that he pushes back on admin, the Noble Creek water issues really sold me on his loyalty to the city. I likely won’t vote for him in the future for mayor but wouldn’t hesitate to cast a vote for him as a councillor. None of the other 8 can be fired quick enough for me.

    • How easy it must be to shelter oneself in a clique of 7 others while continuing to frustrate and bully a single person. There’s a word for that – cowardice.

Yes, Rod, so many people agree with you.

It’s as if none of them have any skeletons in their closets.
