Are you kidding conflict, wars and NATO membership, have been an ATM for the US defense-industrial complex, which has benefited from massive contracts for weapons. First weapons are standardised mostly US made for NATO which means to supply waring parties and replenish domestic stockpiles. For Canada this includes direct purchases, maintenance, and upgrades of military equipment.
We spend about $26.90 billion annually mostly in US. The long-term consequences of total militarization of any economy is ultimately a dead end. You might as well build a conveyer belt to the middle of the Pacific and put the military goods on it and dump them as they are non productive. Ther use provides employment for the soldiers, beourocrats and producers of weapons and that is achieved by starting new armed conflict and killing more people. Canadian Department of Defence is the largest department in terms of budget accounting for 7.3% and that was several years ago. In terms of GDP Healthcare, social programs and education are the largest in that order.

I hope we buy those choppers and the technology from somewhere other than the US. All of these threats are a form of blackmail, designed to ultimately get Canada to be the “51st state”
