POLICE – Three arrested in Yew Street standoff after gunshot report
A large police presence on the North Shore Wednesday (July 20, 2022) concluded with three people being taken into police custody as part of an ongoing investigation, RCMP said today.
Around 1:05 p.m. Wednesday, RCMP responded to a report involving possible gunshots on the 100-block of Yew Street. Officers identified a residence believed to be associated with the suspected gunshots and established a presence. The public was asked to please avoid the area, while nearby residents were requested to shelter in place.
“This report came on the heels of a shooting in Dallas the night before,” said Insp. Jeff Pelley, Kamloops RCMP Detachment’s Officer in Charge of Operations.
“Although the incidents are not presently believed to be related, based on the information available at the time and the risk assessment conducted, the Kamloops RCMP Detachment contacted additional support units, including the Southeast District Emergency Response Team (ERT), to help ensure the safety of all those involved, including the public.”
Just before 6:45 p.m., three people were taken into police custody, where they remain as part of the ongoing investigation. Soon after, the majority of police presence was cleared and the public was allowed back into the area.
“The Kamloops RCMP Detachment realizes the inconvenience caused to the public during the police presence yesterday; we are thankful for their cooperation in helping to ensure a safe outcome for all of those in and around the area,” added Insp. Pelley.
Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2022-25001.
