POLICE – Bus stopped after report of passenger with a cocked handgun
Police are investigating a report involving a man who allegedly had a suspected firearm out on a public transit bus yesterday afternoon.
On March 2, 2022, around 5:15 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to a call involving a man who was travelling on a city bus, cocking a handgun, and pointing it around. A specific bus number and suspect description was provided.
“Due to the elevated risk involved and the potential threat to public safety, multiple police officers responded, quickly located and then stopped the bus travelling northbound on the Overlander Bridge,” said Inspector Jeff Pelley.
“Officers were able to confirm no one on the bus was injured, nor was the suspect described present.”
Further investigation revealed the suspect had left the bus on Victoria Street West, prior to the report being made to police.
The suspect is described as:
- Indigenous male
- Bald
- Age 30-40
Wearing:
- Three quarter sleeve black shirt
- Black mask
Anyone who witnessed the suspect on the bus, saw him exit onto Victoria Street West between 4:45 p.m. and 5:10 p.m., or has information related to this investigation is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2022-6676.
