Re: Doug Collins column, ‘ER protocols at Royal Inland need second look’

I was phoned last Wednesday afternoon , saying I was to get into RIH as soon as possible , I was to go to emergency,where they would be awaiting me to have an emergency procedure done that night.

Arrived about 6 p.m., waited about three hours – onto outpatient stretcher then – NOTHING until late evening next day, told it would be morning

Overnight again, taken up to my floor next morning, ready for treatment BUT they had not done anything yet. Finally allowed a bowl of cherios, and prepped … Treatment started Saturday morning.

RIH -LEFT HAND HAS NO IDEA WHAT RIGHT HAND IS DOING… Truly as joke.

It is no joke…Terry Lake supposedly had four years and plenty of money to make it perfect…I will take nothing but the highest praises for RIH.
Now there is…another thing coming…actually 400 millions “things” called dollars coming for more glitzy real estate…how’s that going to improve the “care” in the gargantuan Health apparatus?
So many questions so few “concrete” answers…

This is ridiculous. Imagine the added psychological torture this patient endured while waiting for this “emergency” procedure. I don’t understand why IHA administrators – very highly paid and therefore supposedly very capable – get away with these kinds of results.

The horror stories just keep coming. We moved to Kamloops from rural Cariboo last year because we thought, at our ages, it was safer to be close to a regional hospital. The golden hour rule would not have worked to get us to our local hospital ER or out of the Cariboo in an emergency. Now we don’t have Drs. and my husband spent 7 hrs sitting in the ER waiting room last year waiting for what turned out to be a serious diagnosis of a post-op blood clot in his lung. We now wonder if we might as well have stayed where we both had good Drs. and even walk-in clinics where we were seen the same day. However, we are impressed with the care we have received from the medical professionals in RIH once my husband went through the ER doors as well as the Nurse Practitioners we were lucky enough to get in lieu of Drs.

I know our Royal Inland Hospital sucks big time its always been that way ,they should change it to make it better
