First civic election forums announced
NEWS/ CIVIC ELECTION 2014 — There will be no shortage of civic election events to stir the interest of potential votes between now and Nov. 15.
Kamloops Vote 50, the community group targeting a 50-per-cent or better turnout in the election, unveiled a packed calendar of campaign events Thursday, and also threw out a challenge to Prince George and Kelowna.
The roster of events includes election forums, mixers and other gatherings leading up to voting day.
It includes a Youth Civic All Candidates Forum on Oct. 23 in which issues affecting young people and their future will be discussed at the Boys and Girls Club, a North Shore BIA “Election dialogue” forum Nov. 7, 6:30 p.m. at the North Shore Community Centre, and an all-candidates’ seniors forum at Desert Gardens on Nov. 10 at 12 noon.
The object is to “provide easy-to-find information, create fun events to increase participation, and launch initiatives to make 2014 the most accessible election Kamloops has ever seen,” said Kamloops Vote 50 campaign coordinator Will George.

The challenge to Kelowna and Prince George is to see who can get the highest voter turnout.
