Sundhu urges action in ‘Sisters in Spirit’ vigil

NEWS — Oct. 4 is the national day to commemorate the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls. Vigils are coordinated across Canada and internationally by the Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC) to honour the number of missing and murdered Aboriginal Women, to raise awareness and provide supports to families who have lost a loved one.

“Thomas Mulcair and the NDP initiated the debate into missing and murdered women in Parliament and have urged the need for an inquiry,” said Bill Sundhu, Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo federal NDP candidate.

He said the NDP has pledged to create an inquiry into MMIW within the first 100 days of becoming government. “There was a time, believe it or not, when at least some Conservatives agreed with the national inquiry idea, but the PMO silenced them and they changed their tune.”

Sundhu will attend the Kamloops Vigil (Oct. 4, McDonald Park, 6 p.m.) to honour the MMIW.
