Police still working on unsolved homicide
NEWS/ POLICE — Police once again appealed to the public Tuesday for answers to the unsolved homicide of Shana Labatte, as the Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit continues to work on the case.
On March 23, 2004, the body of 31-year-old Labatte was found near a walking trail in the Mission Flats area just west of the Weyerhaeuser effluent ponds. Her body was discovered by people walking in the park.
It was determined by investigators that she had been the victim of a homicide. At the time of the discovery, police asked anyone who had been in the area between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. of that day to contact Kamloops RCMP.
On March 25, 2004 Kamloops RCMP publicly identified the victim and indicated that she lived a high-risk lifestyle. Police are asking the public for information from anyone who may have seen or heard from Labatte in the days leading up to the discovery of her body.
“Shana was loved; she was a daughter, a mother and a friend,” said Cpl. Cheryl Bush.
“Her memory is kept alive by her family, who are still looking for answers. Police have regular contact with the family and they are always hopeful that they will get some closure one day.
“Investigators know that there are people out there with information about Shana’s murder and we appeal to these people’s conscience and ask them to come forward, no matter how small the piece of information may be.”
