CITY – Tranquille Road project will interrupt water service overnight

Some Tranquille Road residents will be without water service for about 11 hours tonight (Thursday, July 23, 2026) due to construction work on phase three of the sanitary main and road upgrade project.
The City said the the overnight time slot was chosen to balance worker safety, maintain the project schedule, and reduce impacts on residents during peak water demand.
Originally scheduled for Tuesday, the shutdown was rescheduled to Friday, July 24, based on extreme heat. The work will now take place overnight from Thursday evening (July 23) into Friday morning (July 24) through approval of a noise variance permit.
From about 7 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday, roughly 150 properties along Tranquille Road between Townsend Place and McGillivray Street will experience a temporary water service interruption while crews complete the work.
“The overnight schedule was selected after considering several options. Completing the work overnight avoids exposing construction crews to forecasted extreme daytime temperatures, helps keep the project on schedule, and minimizes the impact of shutting off water during the community’s busiest period of water use.”
Residents affected by the shutdown are encouraged to:
- store enough water ahead of time for drinking, cooking, and essential household needs
- keep taps closed during the shutdown to help prevent accidental flooding when service is restored
- run a cold water tap for several minutes after service returns if water appears cloudy or discoloured
The City said nearby residents can expect temporary noise from excavation equipment, trucks, compaction activities, and occasional pipe cutting. “Crews will make every effort to minimize disruptions by limiting equipment idling when not in use, completing louder activities in short durations where possible, and carrying out the noisiest work away from homes whenever feasible.”
