Mothers deserve their special day
SUNDAY MORNING EDITORIAL — There can never be enough stories told about mothers and what they do.
Fathers are special, too, but mothers are the ones who give birth to us. Fathers, for all their good qualities, are bystanders when we come into this world.
An oft-quoted proverb on this day says, “The hand that rocks the cradle rules the nation and its destiny.”
Mother’s Day is celebrated around the world, the “modern-day” version of it beginning in 1907. It shows that the reverence for the role of mothers in family and society knows no borders. James Whistler thought so highly of his mother he painted a picture of her.
Some mothers are more famous than others. Mary is probably the most famous of all. Cinderella’s stepmother made her mark, too, though not in a good way.
Maria von Trapp, Mother Teresa, Grandma Moses, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Cleopatra, Britney Spears, Michelle Obama, Pamela Anderson and Princess Kate are on various lists, and for varying reasons.
Such lists prove mothers aren’t perfect, but who is? Most of the time, they do a good job, and what they do is always important.
They deserve a little pampering today.

There is also an oft quoted saying from Dr Phil, “If Mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy!” Let’s all keep our mamas happy today and every day.
Happy Mothers Day to all mothers.
