POLICE – Woman killed as vehicle leaves Westsyde Rd., strikes tree, catches fire

The Tk’emlups RCMP Detachment is investigating a crash that claimed a local woman’s life on Saturday evening.

Just after 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026, officers from the Tk’emlups and Kamloops RCMP detachments were called to a crash notification from a cell phone in the 7000-block of Westsyde Road.

Kamloops Fire and Rescue found a vehicle had gone off the roadway and struck a tree; the vehicle was fully engulfed.

“The driver, a 22-year-old Kamloops woman, did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene,” said S/Sgt. Janelle Shoihet of the Kamloops RCMP detachment. “Our thoughts go out to her family at this difficult time.”

An RCMP collision analyst and reconstructionist attended to assist in efforts to determine the cause of the collision, which remains under investigation.

Westsyde Road was closed for several hours as the investigation was undertaken.
