Claims that he’s to blame for CAO David Trawin’s departure from City Hall are “crazy,” Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson said today (July 31, 2025).

The City announced today that Trawin, who has been on leave for several months, will not be returning. The reason given was that the mayor allegedly made Trawin’s continued employment with the City “unsustainable and untenable” and “negatively or adversely impacted him on both a professional and personal level.”

Hamer-Jackson today denied harassing Trawin. “It’s just crazy,” he said. “David Trawin can make up anything he wants.”

The mayor reiterated that he never threatened to fire Trawin, as has been frequently alleged in media reports. “I never threatened to fire him, not once.”

He pointed to a text from Trawin to him that acknowledged, “You didn’t threaten to fire me.”

Hamer-Jackson said he copied key staff and several councillors on the text.

Of the allegations he caused Trawin’s ultimate departure, he said, “The truth is a lie and a lie is the truth.”

Byron McCorkell, who took over Trawin’s job when he left, will continue as CAO.

  1. for the first time in his tenure at city of Kamloops, someone tried to hold Trawin to account for his work. And this is what happened.

  2. imagine making hundreds of thousands of dollars, and making the decision go on leave for the basic concept of being expected to perform your job to a high level. This is what is expected of all of us who are employee. If my boss is upset at my performance, that’s on me. It’s not on the taxpayers. I can’t believe how entitled some people get!

  3. guilty as charged Mr. Mayor. Is there nothing we can do to get you to leave?

  4. The City of Kamloops now speaks as an omniscient entity. No attribution. No clue of why wrote the statement. Is it everyone at City Hall? And council? It must be. How can you write something like this as a municipality but not say who wrote it? How can the municipality make statements like this on its own?

  5. The truth about DT is that there were personal issues well before RHJ became mayor.

  6. Mr. Trawin was already quite unwell before this current term. He collapsed during a council meeting and had other short medical leaves.

Blaming his poor health on the mayor is unfair and seems to be just one more mean-spirited attempt to discredit Mr. Hamer-Jackson.

  7. Press releases from the City of Kamloops are generally laughable, including this one. The mayor may be unfit for office but those administrators are something else.

  8. Give me salary of McCorkle or Trawin, and anyone at City Hall or on council can say whatever they want to me. I will show up to work every single day. Every. Single. Day. For $300K. Every. Damn. Day.

With a smile on my face and a can-do attitude.
