Tkemlúps te Secwépemc (TteS) announced today (Nov. 14, 2024) two new additions to Chief Louis Crossing at the intersection of Yellowhead Highway and East Shuswap Road:  a Petro-Canada gas bar and a Starbucks café with drive-thru services. The gas bar will open in December and the Starbucks in January.

The Petro-Can, the second one owned by TteS, will provide full fuel services and a convenience store to meet the needs of both local customers and visitors.

“The addition of this Petro-Canada station represents TteS’s dedication to expanding community centered enterprises that benefit both our members and the broader Kamloops region,” said Cal Bagshaw, manager at TteS Petro-Canada.

Tye Coldwell, senior account manager of business development for Suncor, added, “We are honored to support TteS’s growing role in local economic development and to provide quality fuel and services to the Kamloops community.”

The new Starbucks will have café space as well as convenience with both a drive-thru and Starbucks’ mobile order & pay. It will include beverages, seasonal innovation, bakery and food items.

“We’re delighted to welcome Starbucks to Chief Louis Crossing,” shared Krista Stoesz, economic development officer for Sc.wén̓wen Economic Development Corporation. “This partnership underscores our commitment to creating more employment opportunities and fostering collaborations that create lasting, positive impacts for the community.”

Chief Louis Crossing, already the home of the recently opened Sweláps Market, continues to expand with more than 56,000 sq. ft. of leasable space.

  1. Starbucks, great for landlords and awful for local businesses. Tim Hortons are better as they are franchisee owned so the profits have some chance of supporting the community. Starbucks profits don’t even stay in the country.

  2. I still think a joint venture for a world class Performing Arts & Cultural Centre could be explored. Federal grants, long term goals and reconciliation could be part of the process.

Provincially, construction of a highway-class bridge to replace the former red bridge would be realized.
