LETTER – Social problems aren’t of the Tranquille Rd. neighbourhood’s making

Mr. Rothenburger, I agree 100% with your conclusions, the can just got kicked a little further down the road.
I zoomed in to watch the final passing of the motion to extend the use of the space for an additional 20 months. After all the hand wringing and buck passing was over, the residents and businesses of the area were once again left to suffer the consequences of having the shelter in their backyards. And unless the land owners step in and want to develop the property, further extensions to the Bob Hughes hotel’s lease will be back before Council.
What this Council (and others in the past) has done is conclude it’s alright to discriminate against a neighbourhood so the rest of us can sleep at night with a window open or take a stroll around the block after dusk.
Tranquille Rd residents and businesses are being asked to shoulder the consequences of a problem(s) that the community/society has not been able to wrestle to the ground. A problem that wasn’t of the good folk of the Tranquille Road area’s making. And are being offered nothing in return. No solutions, no reduction in taxes, police security 24/7, City cleanup crews every morning, gift certificates from the White Spot, nothing. Council brought nothing concrete to the table, no light at the end of the tunnel.
Neighbours don’t treat neighbours this way.
BOB GAMBLE
Ever since “the ‘loops” closed crime has gone up. The ‘loops was a day space that cost the city nothing but they continuously harassed the organizers and patrons, spent tens of thousands on bylaw and security monitoring but didn’t lift a finger to help those who needed the space.
By designating it a nuisance property the city aided in its eviction which has led to the Butler Motors shelter and significantly more problems, all of which were predictable.
Another failure by this council.
No Incumbents!

Having lunch on Saturday we noticed about 50 % of the few people on the sidewalk were either intoxicated or lost mentally for whatever reason. It was quite depressing. Council has been too soft on the Province and too soft on the crims who ride around on e bikes selling dope. Reid is not the smoothest Mayor but he called this bs a long time ago.
