POLICE – Evacuee charged with arson, mischief after hotel room trashed

An evacuee from Williams Lake has been charged with arson and mischief after a Kamloops hotel room was damaged.

RCMP were called to a disturbance at a Columbia Street hotel last Friday (July 28, 2017), Cpl. Jodie Shelkie said today (Aug. 3, 2017).

She said they found that things had been thrown around inside a room in the hotel.  A window was broken, a fridge overturned and some items set on fire.

“The fire suppression system of the hotel worked effectively and extinguished the flames but the water caused significant damage inside of the room and the hallway outside of the room.”

Shane Dalton Dennis was arrested and has been charged with one count of arson and two counts of mischief.  Dennis, 30, was staying as an evacuee from Williams Lake in the hotel, said Shelkie..

So a hotel room was vandalized. Does it matter one iota who did it? What are we supposed to make of the apparent fact that this person was an evacuee from Williams Lake. Those are hardly pertinent to the story except to give it some sensational character.
