LETTER – It’s time to clean up the fracking mess

Researchers recently discovered that methane emissions from the LNG/fracking sector are at least 2.5 times higher than the government estimates, meaning the LNG/fracking industry is much dirtier than we’ve been told.

Fracking irreversibly pollutes our fresh water supplies, putting all life forms at risk of chronic illness and/or death. This must stop. Or shall we stay locked onto a path of self destruction as a species?

This situation in any case may be inevitable. Shall we say better luck next time around or shall we get down to developing alternative energy sources?

It’s time to clean up this fracking mess.

-Someone should go back to the original engineering and technical ‘peoples’ whom thought out and brought to use the fracking method and find out just what they have as accumulative data, based on the experiences in the States and other places and then ramp up the newest technological alternatives to contrast this one industry. All based on a cost analysis of the two, in order to see if the size of BC would be an ‘efficient use of fracking,’ so to speak, against alternative ‘other’ technological ways of producing either resources or energy. Then, we could see if we are just trying to play on a world stage with a ‘level head’ economically or if we are just trying to maintain a Asian-Pacific ‘card’ in trade overseas.
-Couldn’t hurt: if the facts wouldn’t support the size of BC taking on this type of operation (and controls therein), especially since we have such clean waterways in the province -both ground and surface, comparative to North America geography/hydrology at least.
