LETTER – ‘Team’ of eight will be remembered in indelible ink

The ‘Team of Eight.’
Dear Armchair Mayor,
Thanks for the photo of the swearing in ceremony for the Mayor and Council in 1999. It was a different world then.
You likely remember the days of “cartridge pens”. I remember learning cursive writing in elementary school. Our essays were written using cartridge pens. Mistakes were difficult to correct because indelible ink was used. (If memory serves me right, we were instructed to draw two lines through the error, place the word in brackets and then write the corrected word next in line.)
When “The Team” was formed shortly after the last election, history can show that the things they did were recorded using indelible ink. Eight individuals ran independently for council. The eight formed a single Team. All hell broke loose.
In this election, let us look back at the errors recorded using indelible ink. Here’s hoping we never see another “Team”.
JOHN NOAKES,
Citizen of Westmount
EDITOR’S NOTE: Indeed. I even remember the nib type pens we had to dip in an inkwell.
