LETTER – Many rural residents of TNRD don’t get the benefit of grant funding

It is positive that the TNRD was successful in receiving a $7M Grant.

Stil when you look at it closer what could be better than residents paying nothing for capital of a service that serves your area. It would be the equivalent of someone replacing well pumps or pressure tanks for rural residents for free. It has become the norm where people served by utilities pay very little for their improvements. TNRD utility residents are very fortunate that TNRD staff and directors serve them to that extent.

Utilities has always been a priority for TNRD staff in pursuing grants. 15% of rural residents are in TNRD owned utility services. The 85% of rural residents outside of these services receive very little in grants pursued by the region.

It would be great if TNRD staff would look at solid waste infrastructure to pursue grants for SW and reduce taxes throughout the region, whether in a utility services or not.

Perhaps the 85% of rural residents outside utility service areas don’t complain enough for the current politicians or staff to serve their needs.
