With the 2026 55+ BC Games less than 90 days away, organizers are seeking first aid-certified Kamloops residents to volunteer as part of the Games medical team.
The host society needs certified first aid volunteers stationed at sport venues throughout the city during Games week, Sept. 8 to 12. Medical volunteers will serve as the first line of safety for the more than 2,500 participants and visitors expected at the event.
“We would like 120 trained and certified first aid volunteers to make these Games safe for everyone who comes to Kamloops to compete,” said Ron McColl, president of the Kamloops 2026 55+ BC Games Host Society.
“Kamloops has always shown up for these Games and we’re counting on that community spirit again.”
Shift schedules are still being finalized and will be confirmed in advance of Games week. Volunteers must hold a valid first aid certificate at the time of the event.
Beyond the medical team, the host society is recruiting community volunteers for two additional roles. This is for outgoing residents who enjoy meeting people, helping when needed, and ensuring every participant and visitor has a great experience, says the society.
The Games is also seeking volunteer photographers who bring their own gear and a passion for photography to cover competition and ceremonies across all five days.
“Whether you have a first aid certificate, a friendly face, or a camera, there is a role for you at these Games. We want Kamloops residents to be part of this,” said McColl.
Medical, photography, and host positions are among many volunteer roles still open for the Games. Residents are encouraged to register and explore the full range of opportunities at 55plusbcgames.org/get-involved.
The 55+ BC Games is a provincial multi-sport event celebrating active aging across British Columbia. Kamloops will host the Games for the third time — following 1996 and 2013 — welcoming more than 2,500 participants competing across 28 sports from Sept. 8 to 12, 2026.
The Games are expected to generate about $3 million in economic activity for the region.
