An incident in which beer was poured on Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson in a local bar has been resolved not in court, but through restorative justice.

The mayor filed a claim with RCMP on June 23, 2024 in which he said beer was poured on him in the Blue Grotto night club.

Restorative justice is an alternative approach to criminal justice that focuses on repairing the harm caused and providing an opportunity for parties to make amends.

On November 8, 2025, the matter came to a peaceful conclusion with a successful restorative justice forum conducted by Kamloops RCMP Crime Prevention Unit Restorative Justice volunteers. The suspect along with Hamer-Jackson and a police officer from the Kamloops RCMP General Investigative Support Team gathered to participate in the forum.

The identity of the accused man wasn’t released and police say the matter is now concluded and no further information will be released.

Hamer-Jackson said today (Nov. 14, 2025) that once he found out the identity of the man who poured beer on him, he decided not to “waste the court’s time” and cause further problems for the man who, he said, “made an error in judgment.”

The man has no criminal record, and gave him a letter of apology, the mayor said.

He also blamed the media for some of the negative reaction he encounters when out in public. “My life is at risk sometimes due to biased media.”

  1. This summer me and my grandfather were in contact with Rebel News. We ended up providing a large dossier to Rebel News about the actions of council. Many issues were raised from the abuse of AAPs, their anti-democratic actions and a laundry list of dysfunction. It appears they’ve finally come for a visit. Council is going to love the national spotlight.

  2. Let’s say that Reid can still be a “people person” as he was when he was in business. Thanks that the RCMP intervened with mediation and a good outcome was seen by both parties.

The next few months leading up to the next election could be interesting if this fellow develops a friendship with Reid and helps with the campaign if Reid decides to run for office again.

  3. Obviously, first a happy moment that this situation is resolved peacefully, and to be clear a dumped beer is completely inappropriate as a way to react to anyone.

    That said;

” He also blamed the media for some of the negative reaction he encounters when out in public. ‘My life is at risk sometimes due to biased media.’ “

Let me try to parse this.

Is this our Mister Mayor sidestepping personal responsibility for any perceived … lets say … annoyance with his performance in the job … with a belief that it is based on incorrect or at the very least, biased reporting by the media?

This is the mayor that actually sues people, including elected City Councilors if his nose gets out of joint, personally makes City staff people so uncomfortable or feel so threatened that he has to be locked away from them and needs his office moved into the basement away from others.

Lets all just stop for a moment and remember instances on our own, during his tenure, that actually happened, or things he actually said, or a situation he actually created … and balance all of this against the possibility of some reported media bias.

Does that alone mean he didnt do any of that?
Did the media not just ‘report’ on what he actually said or did?

The way he says this as a way to explain or justify the situation, seems very telling as to how his mind works, and how he seems unable to change course once a mindset is decided on.

Kinda like another leader who doesnt like the press, ‘fake news’,
even when they ask him about what he actually did – ‘nasty question’.
