REID ALL ABOUT IT – ‘Protective measures’ and a ‘letter of engagement’

An occasional glimpse into the fascinating mayoral life of Reid Hamer-Jackson:

The mayor and council were at it again at Tuesday’s (Oct. 21, 2025) City council meeting when he raised the question of “protective measures” against him. Noting that he’s supposed to go through the deputy mayor du jour to ask questions and get answers, Hamer-Jackson said the system isn’t working, i.e., he’s not getting answers.

And besides, he said, maybe councillors and specific staff should consider their own decorum. If they did, they’d see “a lot of chaos and not paying attention to Robert’s Rules of Order” as they complain about people sticking their tongues out at them and such.

He said he has frequently asked for copies of emails and texts about his alleged bullying and harassment but never gets them. Then he moved on to ask corporate officer Maria Mazzotta if it’s illegal to “tamper” with the minutes of council meetings. She replied that if minutes are being tampered with, she’d like to be told about it.

The mayor didn’t elaborate on what he was talking about, but asked about a “letter of engagement” he’s been trying to get a copy of. Coun. Kelly Hall replied that all information has been provided to him so “go and do the work.”

Hamer-Jackson said no, he hasn’t been provided with the information, and would like an emailed copy. “What’s the problem?” he asked. He’d be expecting the letter, he added.

“It won’t happen,” retorted Hall.

When a mayor isn’t getting answers to questions “behind the scenes, then it’s not good governance,” concluded Hamer-Jackson.

Bass suggested he follow the “civil discourse code.”

  1. We have total incompetance on too many levels nowadays. It’s not as if the mayor didn’t raise the point of why we are rolling over as the feds and the province download huge costs to the taxpayers. With an election coming the cry will be that restraint is the answer. Too little too late. When the council gets the boot it will be the taxpayers who pay the bill and it will be big and it won’t be the mayor who is responsible

  2. When you look around a room, either a normal office worksite, or a volunteer or community board, all the way up to a Council of peers in the electoral world … if its gotten to the point that no one will engage with you at all, in any way whatsoever … and the black racing flag is obviously out, its time for you to go.

If there is no repairing any of these professional relationship, just go.

If no one will meet with you, just go.

If it is pointless to continuously go back and rehash how we got here, just go.

If all the work is being done over your head and you have little or no impact in what you’re hired to do, and cant get it done … just go.

Yes … you can spend forever keeping the same arguments alight, you could continue to be in the way of letting go of the past, you can make it even worse if you wanted to, and even launch a few more lawsuits just for fun … but why?

Wouldn’t it be in everyone’s best interest to just say you tried … and just go and move onto something else?

… soo … why not just go.

  3. “Civil discourse code”…did the Bass really say that? Arrogance meets ignorance and more, the Bass should look into a mirror…and so the rest of them.

  4. I don’t think the elected Mayor can hope for much support from the 8 councillors.

And with Katie, one of the group of 8, it seems that she and “her writing partner” might have somehow put some weight onto the administration at Interior Health as being somewhat leaning towards misogyny.  (Read the recent “Sound Off: Pregnant?” article on the CFJC web site.) That’s quite the thought pattern and it may be one that Interior Health might find offensive if not damaging.  Let’s just hope that it doesn’t lead to something along the lines of court action for defamation.  I think the taxpayers have had quite enough of paying legal bills for one defamation case already.
