LETTER – The night before Christmas, Kamloops citizens have just one wish

(Image: Mel Rothenburger)

‘Twas the night before Christmas in ol’ Kamloops town,
The council was stirring, with furrow and frown.
The chambers were filled with debate and despair,
While whispers of scandals hung thick in the air.

The mayor was nestled, but not with much peace,
With lawsuits and headlines that just wouldn’t cease.
And Katie, with grievances long as a scroll,
Tossing sharp jabs like a seasoned elf’s coal.

Sarai tried framing, but got caught in the act,
As council grew tense with the weight of the fact.
While Bass, ever zealous, with complaints to compile,
Sent twelve all at once—but none with much style.

Karpuk told a fib, but his story fell flat,
While Hall’s sour demeanor? We’ll leave it at that.
Middleton and Bepple, stuck under the spell,
Stayed with the “mean girls” to avoid council hell.

O’Reilly sat blankly, smug look on his chin,
Dismissing the taxpayers in hopes of a win,
The gallery all watched with a mix of dismay,
And a chuckle or two at the drama display.

“A soap opera’s brewing!” one citizen said,
As visions of chaos danced round in their head.
Then out on the street there arose such a clatter,
It was council at odds, in yet another matter.

To the windows of City Hall, folks flew in a flash,
To see what new drama would follow this clash.
The snow softly fell, but the peace didn’t last,
As council kept bringing up grudges long past.

Yet amid all the chaos, the town’s spirit grew,
For Kamloopsians knew they had KCU.
So here’s to the council, may they soon find their way,
To ensure that the public still has their right say.

Our list is just one, that they please heed the call,
To give us some peace, in our city hall.
Merry Christmas to Kamloops, with laughter and cheer,
May your politics calm… at least till next year!
