Kamloops residents are being invited to engage in developing the City’s 2025 budget and 2025–2029 Five-Year Financial Plan.
City administration conducts an analysis each year to forecast costs and plan for the future. In 2025, several key factors will play a significant role in shaping the City’s financial outlook, according to a news release today (Nov. 5, 2024). Included are ongoing political uncertainty and elections provincially, federally, and south of the border.
The City uses zero-based budgeting to draft a provisional budget each year rather than using past expenditures, the release said.
Residents are encouraged to visit the 2025 budget consultation page on the City’s Let’s Talk website. The website will feature a wealth of resources from November through March, including key budget timelines, process overviews, documents, infographics, videos, and opportunities to engage directly with the City’s finance managers through surveys and forums.
The City encourages residents to subscribe through the site to receive updates on the budget, including notifications when surveys and forums are live.
Key dates:
- November 19, 2024: Presentation of the provisional budget to City Council
Council Chambers, 1:30 pm - November 20, 2024: Public budget information session, including opportunities to chat with Council and senior staff and to participate in a survey
Sandman Centre, Kia Lounge, 6:00 pm

Despite all the evidence to the contrary the typical attitude from City’s management is their inability to adequately address their spending habits and to dismiss their critics. The City of Kamloops wastes money in a myriad of way including the large financial impact of the care-free attitude of their sizeable workforce. Especially now with the kind of council we ended up with, futility is taking up a whole new level of meaning for all engaged people in our city.
