EDITORIAL – Trump’s words just keep getting more confused and dangerous

Donald Trump.

An editorial by Mel Rothenburger.

THE LAST TIME I wrote about Donald Trump, I said the biggest thing we have to worry about in 2024 is that he could be elected president of the United States for a second time.

I received some feedback on that one from people who think Trump knows what he was doing as president. They say they like his policies.

I would argue with respect to his past policies as president but how are you liking his latest “policies” and statements since that January editorial? The most recent came on the weekend when he vowed there would be a “bloodbath” if he isn’t elected this time.

Bloodbath. While his supporters are now scrambling to re-interpret that, it’s pretty clear what he means. His exact words were, “If I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the whole — that’s going to be the least of it. It’s going to be a bloodbath for the whole country.”

In other words, he’ll only accept the election results if he wins.

He also called imprisoned Jan. 6 rioters “hostages” and said he’ll free them if he’s elected. In fact, he’s long praised the rioters as “great people.”

This man who makes fun of handicapped people and of President Joe Biden’s stutter, and of anyone who isn’t a Trumper, and is up on numerous charges — for which he already owes hundreds of millions of dollars — also questioned whether immigrants are real people: “I don’t know if you call them people. In some cases they’re not people, in my opinion. But I’m not allowed to say that because the radical left says that’s a terrible thing to say.”

He’s also confirmed he “won’t give a penny” to help Ukraine against Russia, and Russia can “do whatever the hell they want” with NATO countries that don’t pay enough. He praises Putin as “brilliant” and last week hosted Putin ally Viktor Orban, the far-right leader of Hungary. “There’s nobody that’s better, smarter or a better leader than Viktor Orban,” he said.

Putin returned the compliment, countering claims that his own “re-election” was undemocratic by saying that all the legal challenges faced by Trump are what’s undemocratic.

And, by the way, Trump would put a 100 per cent tariff on any cars manufactured outside the U.S.

Mind you, these things are coming from the mouth of a man who is growing increasingly confused, incoherent and dangerous every time he takes the stage. Joe Biden, by comparison, is sharp witted and rational.

Those responsible for providing information like the news outlets are not respectfultowards the news consumer. This conduct indicates that there is no consideration for the citizens of Canada, their feelings, dignity, and education which in many cases is higher than that of those who compile the news. This editorial should have been about a society that puts forth such candidate as Biden and Trump for presidency of the USA.Many of us who spent our life teaching student’s responsibility to question the professionalism and trust they place in government; its bureaucracy is lost like in this editorial which is not ethical or professional.

When one knows the history and reads peer reviewed material on world events there is some trust that the information is reliable. When you ignore history Mel and expert opinion, this only provides emotive information and exhibits lack of reliability and trust that the job is done with dignity as required by journalistic ethics. Such conduct indicates that there is no respect or consideration for the client’s need for objectivity. Respectfulness would require asking if the editor has an agenda to present information to suit the government agenda or the political narrative of the lobby group in the nation. This form of journalism is a threat to our democratic freedoms and you know this, Mel.

Do you agree that Biden suffers from dementia, and that a person who suffers from dementia should not have control of the nuclear button

Do you agree that Biden supports Israel in the Gaza, and that It was not the Palestinians and Muslims that killed 6 million Jews whose suffering is now used to justify Palestinian suffering. Do you agree that it was the Christians from the EU with the hook cross that not only killed the Jews but 45 million others.

Examine Colonialism in the Middle East and you come back and write an editorial that is factual and vitrifiable.

Do you agree that Biden supported war in Iraq, Syria, Libya. Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, and destabilized many countries in the Americas, Middle East, Africa and Asia

Do you agree that he supported colour revolutions in Europe and the Maidan coup that led to the death of over half million Ukrainians and Russians a war that should have never happened

Do you agree that Trump supported the existing wars when he became president but Trump was “the first president in modern history” who “did not start a new war.

The present charges against Trump existed prior to him running for president and during his presidential tenure why did they not go after him at that time?

You want to get rid of an opponent you demonize him/her and that is what has happened in the Trump and Orban case. Trump may be the worst possible choice. Defending the worst Mel masks you free but persecuting someone who we know is not guilty is the worst thing the society based on the rule of law can do. I am sure you know that the blindfold on the statue of justice represents the impartiality and objectivity of the law and that it doesn’t let outside factors, such as politics, wealth into decisions of guilt and innocence  ..

As far as tariffs are concerned you throw out a red herring without explaining what has taken place in our country due to outsourcing. We are consumers not producers

Dear Mel… it saddens me deeply that you are buying the BS. Worse than that you are inflaming it.

Trump was clearly referencing a bloodbath in the auto industry in the alleged quote.

As to the J6 prisoners I suggest you check out the recent Tucker Carlson interview with the “QAnon Shaman” Jacob Chancley and note the video where he is ushered into the Senate chamber by Capitol Hill police and implores his fellow protesters to respect the police and to behave themselves.

The US mainstream media has become a joke. When I attended journalism school in the early 80s there was still a pretence of objectivity. It is entirely absent in North American media today.

As to the stolen 2020 and 2022 elections I suggest you check out Canadian journalist Elizabeth Nickson’s recent reporting on it in her substack Welcome to Absurdistan.

Look at the lawfare being conducted against Trump in New York, Georgia, and the Mar a Lago raids and the ridiculous contortions of law and common sense being applied.

I know you are better person than what you are displaying in this column. I’d be more than happy to have a coffee and a chat with you if you’d care to.

    best,

    Simon

Wierd. The incendiary language just galvanizes his supporters. We have so many struggles on this planet these days. Why do we have to add demagoguery to this list?

  5. We can only hope that the day after the election we realize that the ‘average American’ – everyone but the dopiest of MAGA trumpers, will have woken up, remember what that 4 years was actually like, and give Biden an actual landslide that trump will not be able to even argue.

Reality? not that simple unfortunately. There’s a lot of dopiness out there. Anyone who actually says that trump ‘knows what he is doing’ slots firmly in to that definition.
