POLICE – Officer assaulted with skateboard during youth disturbance

A youth was arrested after a police officer was assaulted and his vehicle’s windshield was smashed last night.

On June 22, 2023, around 11:20 p.m., Kamloops RCMP were called to the North Shore Bus Loop on the 700-block of Sydney Avenue for a disturbance report involving a group of 18-20 intoxicated youths. An assault and threats were also reported.

Police said in a news release today a responding officer tried to arrest a male youth who began resisting, and other youths began pulling the officer away.

The release said that while the officer was dealing with that situation, another male youth allegedly smashed the police officer’s windshield with a skateboard, then struck the officer in the head with it, immediately causing injury.

“Very fortunately, the officer is expected to recover,” said Supt. Jeff Pelley.

“This was an extremely alarming situation that could have most certainly had a very different outcome for the officer and youths involved. I can’t stress enough the importance of cooperating with a police investigation and not interfering, which helps no one and in this case, led to an officer being assaulted and a youth now facing very serious charge recommendations.”

The police officer was treated at the scene by ambulance and at hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Backup officers located the assault suspect nearby. He was taken into custody and lodged in cells to be released to a guardian with conditions and a court date; charge recommendations will be submitted as part of the assessment and recommendation process.

The first youth arrested was transported home to his guardian without process, pending the investigation’s results.

Anyone who witnessed, video recorded, or has any surveillance and information related to this incident is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000.

Statesmen have been replaced by a drama teacher, and all our MPs voted against the families that elected them on Bill C4. These MPs should be disqualified for re-election. This is what the youth are seeing and hearing, some see the light and escape. Thanks, Grads.

  2. Mel, do you suppose that the permissive drug policies, the blight we are exposed to on a daily basis, junkies shooting up on walking paths and sidewalks, illegal encampments, constant theft and seemingly little to no consequence, are fuelling the debasing of society at large?

Are people speeding, running red lights, drinking in public and assaulting police on account of what they’re seeing in the community?

This is my theory. And why not? If there’s no consequence for drug abuse, crime and deviant behaviour, camping wherever you want, throwing trash wherever you want… why can’t I gather at a bus stop and drink into a drunken stupor? Why can’t I run a red light? Why should I obey the posted speed limit? Why shouldn’t I crack you over the head and rob you?
