A missing man presumed drowned in the Thompson River was located this morning (Thursday, Aug. 11, 2022).

At around 8:35 a.m. Kamloops RCMP and Kamloops Fire and Rescue Service were called to Aviation Way for a report of a body caught in some logs near the float plane docks. Officers attended, confirmed a man was deceased, and contacted the BC Coroners Service.

Since then, the man’s identity has been verified and his family notified of his death, said Corp. Crystal Evelyn.

Dr. Michael Mthandazo of Vernon was reported missing on July 30, 2022 around 5:30 p.m., after he entered the Thompson River near McArthur Island to assist his son, who was in distress. He was swept away by the current and did not resurface.
